For a long time now I have been so busy being a wife and mother that I have forgotten about me and doing stuff for me. Just for me. I do stuff all of the time that definitely benefits me of course, but it's really for others too. Like my family. You know how the saying goes "If they are happy then I am happy" kind of thing? And generally speaking I like it that way. But... I was feeling like I needed to step up and out of that pattern for a while and get back to some things I love. Things that are just for me. Like crafting, cooking new recipes, decorating and so on. And while I love how blogging has tapped into my creative, analytical, sharing and caring side. I needed something fun and hands on too. Which brings me to this...Sewing
I love fabric and how people create beautiful and fun things out of sewing patterns and pieces together. I love to see how others take their sewing skills and put then to use making quilts, aprons, curtains, bags and clothes. So when I was at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago, and I had a 40% off coupon to use. I found the cutest book of fun and easy sewing projects. Easy being the operative word! I have very little in the way of sewing skills so I needed a book that was very B.A.S.I.C. I looked through the book a couple of times and decided I wanted to tackle a little summer dress and a wrap skirt. So then I waited until the fabric went on sale that I wanted and purchased a couple of yards of each one. I was so excited! But, of course as you well know from yesterdays post. You need your mama to teach you how to make gravy AND sew a dress! And since we had the sewing machine out...my mom got the sewing bug and is working on a project for some other girlies in our life. :o)
This guy is in charge of quality assurance and product management!
And here it is, my new little dress! Cute huh? I love it and can't wait to tackle the skirt and some other projects that were in the book including some little Huck Finn pants for my little Huckleberry Pie!
And here is the book. My mom also got it for my sister. This way we can sew "together" even if she is all the way over in Sunny Southern California! And the sewing machine at the top is the one my grandma gave my mom to sew on when she was just a new mama and I was a sweet new thing! This is exactly what I needed.
A little something just for me!
This is a Finer Thing!

So wonderful! I have a sewing machine up in the attic that I've put away until things are a little slower around here (say, when the kids go off to college?) but I should probably get it out and make it useful!
That dress is awesome!
How sweet! One of my goals this year is to learn/start sewing. Can't wait to do stuff like this, great job!
VERY cute dress. I can't wait until all my sewing bits are completely organized so I can bust out the machine and get to sewing with ease!
I love the fabric you picked out. I too find that I have to do something just for me once in a while. Though it is hard to find time for it.
I hope to see more projects from your book. Maybe I will go and get it too. I want a dress like that too, yours is awesome.
