So, by now you have probably figured out that I love to make things myself, right?I'm a real sucker for anything that says "homemade" or "made from scratch".
Or, I love the whole "made by me" and "saves me money" philosophy!
That totally gets me every single time.
It's kind of bordering on an obsession...
Or an addiction of sorts.
But a healthy one, so who's counting right?
I mean there are way worse things than being frugal, making things from scratch, or saving money.
Unless we start talking chocolate.
That's a whole different story for a whole different day.
I have been making my own laundry soap and household cleaners for quite a while now, but hadn't quite stumbled up on a recipe for dishwasher soap that I would even consider sharing until now.
A few weeks back, maybe longer. I found a recipe at Homestead Revival that I thought sounded good, so I jotted it down. But, considering that my dishwasher has been broken most of the summer, I didn't have a chance to use it until now.
I was very pleased.
So I feel good about sharing it with you all too.
Homemade Dishwasher Soap
1/2 cup of Borax
1/2 cup of Washing Soda
1/4 cup of Citric Acid
Combine and use sparingly. I use a teaspoon per load and store it in a pint size canning jar.
I also use vinegar as a rinse aid.
If you would like to see a cost break down and a full explanation of the ingredients list than go here. Mine actually cost less because I buy citric acid in bulk.
I appreciate Amy sharing her recipe and I have had great success using it too.
Give it a try. It's well worth your time!

Thanks for the reminder. I had read Amy's blog about making dish washing soap and totally forgot about it. :) I need to try this, with the added salt for our hard water. Praying it works well.
Hubby gets Jet Dry for free, so when I run out I use vinegar. The last time I tried to buy Jet Dry it was too expensive at over $7 for a small bottle! (that was many years ago, I have no idea what it costs nowadays, I never check when we're at the supermarket.)
I need to try this dishwasher recipe. I love the Homestead Revival blog.
I just "discover" Borax because I needed some for a science project. I'll have to try your recipe here for soap. thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Debbie
