Rustic Painted Pumpkins

Looking for a fun and frugal craft project?
Well missy, have I got one for you!
This is a picture of the Rustic Pumpkins I made last year.
It was as easy as Pumpkin Pie.
What's that you say?
You don't bake Pumpkin Pies?
No worries...
You can paint instead!
All you need is some random chunks of wood.
Square and chunky works the best.
I used left over pieces of cedar posts from our deck.
One is about 18 inches tall and the other is about 24 inches tall.
You will also need orange craft paint, which I found for less than a dollar, some raffia or ribbon and a a few inches of a thick branch, cut to create the stem. The branch I used was about 2 inches in diameter.
Cut your pumpkin posts to the height that you would like them to be. They can be tall and skinny or short and fat.
Give them 2 coats of paint. Less if you want to see some of the natural wood color come through and more if you want them completely covered. You will be surprised at how far the paint goes so don't buy 30 little bottles, K?
After they have dried completely, cut your branch stems and hot glue into place.
Or, if you have boys who will drag them around by the stem, then you might want to take the extra step of screwing the stems to the pumpkins.
I did.
But, I have those kinds of boys.
At least one of them anyways!
Tie on the raffia and step back and admire your handy work!
You are so cool, you pumpkin painting party girl!
And if Pumpkin Pie is not your thing, than you should really make this!
It will totally be your thing!

I really like crafts and projects that can be made with whatever you have on hand. This is just such a project. I hadn't thought of it.

Thanks for sharing. I think I have some orange paint. It would be a good project for my 11 yo son. Of course, he'll have to sand and sand. (Translated: keep busy for awhile.)

Kristin! So fun to see you join the party again this week! This is such a great craft idea and one that even this "un-crafty" gal could do! :-) My son would love to do this one with me! Thanks for sharing it!
