The Atmosphere Of Home

"Ideas are held in that thought environment which surrounds the child as an atmosphere, in which he breathes in unconscious ideas of right living emanating from his parents. Every look of gentleness and tone of reverence, every word of kindness and act of help, passes into the thought-environment, the very atmosphere which the child breathes; he does not think of these things, may never think of them, but all his life long they excite that vague appetency [relationship] towards something out of which most of his actions spring."

Charlotte Mason
As shared by Karen Andreola in a "Charlotte Mason Companion."

*Emphasis, mine.*
Go ahead, read that again.
It takes a bit to settle in.

Then.....
Ask yourself the hard questions.

"What kind of atmosphere are we surrounding our children with?"

"What desires do we have for them?"

"What message of right living are we breathing into them, and how do we want to see that spring forth, in their future?"

Peace?
Contentment?
Faith?
Business?
Achievement?
Acquirement?
Love?
Grace?
Security?
Gentleness?
Quietness?
Competitiveness?

I'm sure y'all can name a few more.

Just a little something to ponder......

Love, Kristin

Yeeouch :)

That is one challenging quote. But very true...and so very needed! One thing I am appreciating about growing older myself, is seeing the refining work of God's hand, in me. I know it makes a difference in our home and toward my children....but still, some days it seems we have far to go!

Love your list. Love, faith and a good work ethic would be at the top of my list, too.

Thank you for sharing, I'll be pondering these words!
Blessings,
Collette

I'm learning more and more every day just this.

And even though I fail so much so many of the days with the atmosphere of my home.
I have to give myself credit sometimes and say...
at least I'm home and in the end it means so much.
