The Book Nook :: Revealed

OK~ Sugar Pies.
Y'all have been so patiently waiting on the book nook reveal.
So here ya go.
I love books.
I have said it a hundred times.
There can never be too many books in this house.
And since I love so many books and so much variety in my reading.
I decided....
That I needed a nook.
A little place just for me.
And my books.

Our room is painted a chili pepper red.
It's roomy enough.
And I had a corner that was just calling my name.
Plus, it was getting really hard for me to stay organized with my books.
I had all of my current am reading, must read, hope to reads, stacked by my bed.

And I used to not be this way.

But...
These days I have a few different books going at one time.
Because it all depends on what I am in the mood for.

I know some of you reading can totally relate to that!
However.
Before I could build my little nook.
I needed to procure a few finds, first.
I knew I would want a comfy chair.
And so I looked at some different styles on-line.
Found a few I loved.
But, alas. I am on a self imposed "non-spending" nook building deadline.

As in.....

Can't spend.
Don't like to go to town.
Don't like to shop.
Must complete this project now!

Tough restrictions I'm telling ya!

So....
I confiscated my favorite chair off of my front porch.
For the time being anyways.
While I wait to find a nice cushy free-or next to free chair, that I can sew a slip cover for, out of those cool canvas drop cloths that everyone in blog land uses.

Because for 1~ I will miss this chair too much on my front porch. So it must be returned.

2~ I will nab one of the never opened drop cloths from the garage in the middle of the night.
And then feign befuddlement when my husband asks me if I have seen such drop cloth.

3~ I can't sew, sillies. At least nothing like a slip cover. So, I must ply my mother with a Turtle Pecan Cheesecake, and while she is out of her mind with deliciousness, I will have her sign an enforceable contract, to sew "one" awesome slip cover for me.

I know, right!
Y'all are overly impressed with my plan, huh?

Which brings me to this question.
And, I'm not afraid to beg here.

Anybody have a chair they want to get rid of?
Another item that I wanted to include in my nook was a little stash of note cards, journal, sticky notes and pens.

* Idea courtesy of my bloggy friend Cinnamon.*

*** Thanks Cinnamon.***
I often think of things I want to remember while reading really good books, my bible, or when certain people come to my mind or are on my heart.
This will make it so easy to take care of right away.
Otherwise.
I always think I will remember to do it later.

Which rarely happens.
And nothing says cozy comfort like an old throw and squishy pillow.
And a cushion wrapped with a little toile fabric.
I found a couple of architectural elements and..... found a home for this framed magnetic board that came from that craft fair last fall.
Also got this distressed wooden box from the fair and from the same lady!
I love her.
And swoon every year when I get to her tent.
I have every kind of book you can imagine mixed onto these shelves.
And I love that I can see them all at a glance!

*The book shelf was previously in the boys' room and is the partner to this shelf that I made over, here.*
I love having my chair by the window, and I also snagged the old chippy basket off of the front porch, so I had a place to set my mug, book, writing stuff.....
So there you have it.
I know it's not designer cool.
You are probably at the wrong blog for that look. ;o)

But.

It's light and sweet, and springy and perfect for me.
And best of all.
I didn't spend a dime.

*Amanda wrote a great, great post regarding using what we have over here.*

I love walking in my room, my sanctuary, and seeing this pretty little corner in the midst of a noisy home surrounded by boys.

Also~ I wanted to encouraging any of you reading.....
It is entirely possible to make do with what you have.
And really, really love it!

Love ya!
Kristin

So... I am enjoying myself to death over here reading this completely fantastic post!!!!!!

I just love coming over here to read, I must say my sweet friend, you had me cracking up several times!!! I needed a good laugh.

I love the way you right... it is the way you would have a real conversation with your best friend on the phone. SO good.

YOUR NOOK, Precious, I'm not sure what I love more??? The nook or all the books!!!! Swoon. Oh yes, you know I understand the meaning of reading five books at once. You summed it up nicely... "It depends what I am in the mood for."

Refreshing post my dear!!!

Enjoy that beautiful weather today!!!

Love Carissa
XOXOXOX

Fabulous! It looks similar to one that I just saw in a magazine!
The wall color is gorgeous.

It certainly is amazing what you can do when you put your mind to something, isn't it?

If you can just keep everyone away while you're reading....you'll have it made!

I love the "note" book. I did something similar, once, and wrote down so many things, that when I wanted a certain piece of information, I couldn't find it very easily.

If I didn't know me...I'd begin to wonder about my mental skills. I suppose that as long as I am remembering important things I'm doing OK, right?

I love it! Sooo cozy... When we moved into this current house, I was set on making a book nook for the children and was able to do it without spending anything and just using what we had. It was my conviction for that project too. :) It's now one of my favorite corners of the house, unless of course every book is on the floor like they are now! Take care, Kate

I love it! It's totally awesome, comfy and cozy! And, I love the fact that you didn't spend a dime, woohoo!

As far as the chair... go online and find a freecycle group near you. People offer all kinds of things that they don't want any more and the best part... it's all free. You will have to go pick it up though, lol!

I created a book nook in our bedroom as well. I got my chair from a thrift store for really cheap and used an existing bookcase as well. We girlies do need our reading time!

Enjoy!

I also have a very similar book nook! My cabinet is very much like yours, but it is in the front room (there's no tv there, great room for reading). It's not quite as organized as yours, especially since I have two baskets with kids books there too. It's a family book nook. Well, now I know what to call it!

I read this post earlier this week but didn't have time to leave a comment.... It looks beautiful!! And cozy. And peaceful.

LOL, its kinda funny because I've been thinking about doing something very similar in the corner of my bedroom....although I don't have any pieces of furniture I can repurpose right now. BUT. Garage sale season is coming soon :) You've inspired me!!

Love your books, too :) I think I have more than a few of those titles piled on my nightstand, too (or in the corner...)
