S.W.A.K.

Happy Valentine's Day!
On this day.
I would love to share something with you.
From the heart of my home.

The kitchen.

I'm baking banana bread this morning.
And my house smells delicious.

And..... I couldn't show you all of me.
Just the cute apron and mixing bowl....
Because....
I.am.sick.

Our whole family has an upper respiratory/sinus infection/cough/sniffle/so we can never sleep kind of thing.

We have just passed this little virus of love, round and round.

And where it stops, who really knows.

So, trust me when I tell you.
We look pitiful.

Even our puppy is sick.
She looks really pitiful, too.
Cute....but pitiful.

So today.... we are taking it very easy.
In fact. If you really want to know. We took it easy yesterday, too.
And if you want the whole big bag of truth.
We will probably take it very easy all week.

As in no school.
Basic life chores.
Lots of rest.
Comfort food.
And plush blankets, books, movies, fireplace, and honeyed up hot tea with lemon.

Here are a few things that I have made over the last few days to fill us up and soothe our achy heads and sore throats.

*Just click the link if you want to see the recipe.*

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup
Sweet Country Chili
Sweet Country Scalloped Potatoes and Ham
Homemade French Bread (with butter and raw honey)
Baked Apple Pie Oatmeal
And smoothies.
Lots of blended up frozen goodies in there!
Not to mention the perfect way to add probiotics and immune boosting Vitamin C.

Then the banana bread.
This is a new recipe that I am trying.
It's made with 100% whole wheat and soaking the grains in kefir before making and baking.

Yes, I am dabbling around a bit in the world of "soaked" grains.
It is apparently done to help break the grains down to be made more digestible and to help your body receive all of the nutrients it can, during digestion.

Which, considering our current unhealthy state at the Country House.
I am doing all I can in the name of nourishing foods and good nutrition!
Simple, whole, real, nutritious is the name of game around here.

And finally.
Today I have a few very simple, fun, and easy heartsy crafts for the boys and I to do.
They decorated cards and bags for each family member and are going to make no-bake cookies to fill the little bags.

And..... this mama will be taking a break from posting for a bit.
I'll be back after we have all recovered, my home is in order, and we are back to Sweet Country Life as usual.

I hope you all have a Sweet-hearted kind of day.

Happy Valentine's Day!

XO
XO
XO

And p.s.
I didn't really seal this post with a kiss.
More like a cough, sniffle, snuff and a moan.

Just doing my part to keep our germy selves quarantined at The Country House.

See y'all soon~

Sure hope you feel better soon, Kristin.

And let me know just how you manage to get that house in order, cause I still haven't figured out how to achieve that for any length of time (like over an hour, unless I go right to sleep and am the first one up!)

Can you post some details about soaking the grains, how it went, where you got your ingredients, etc...?? When you are well, of course. :)

Thank you for your well wishes!

Rhonda and Amanda~ I'll post about the "soaking" when I come back.
Maybe not until next week, though.

I hope you are feeling somewhat better by now!!! :-)

It's so hard when we are sick. Praise God we have all been healthy since Nov., but mark my words, it's been too long, someone is going down soon!!!! I can just feel it in the air! LOL

We took a break from "curriculum" home school this week and have just been enjoying Valentine's Day and the GBBC and all the fun that comes with it. A nice break from the everyday routine. It has done wonders for all of us.

Get well wishes for you. Enjoy your bloggy break!

I'm sorry you guys are sick :(
But, I'm also curious how your banana bread turned out. This is one thing that I just can't seem to find a yummy recipe (when I make it that is).
